Description: THE ANIMALS ARE COMING! Safari Northampton is coming to a street near you in summer 2012… Safari Northampton is a world class public art event delivered in partnership with Wild in Art. The event will see large 3D safari-themed animal sculptures take to the streets and parks of Northampton and the local areas of Northamptonshire. Similar in concept to the lion sculptures of The Pride of Northampton in 2010; Safari Northampton will see a whole safari from elephants, hippos and giraffes to gorillas, lions and rhinos. The sculptures rely on sponsorship from local businesses and will be designed and created by local and regional professional artists. Alongside the main event there will also be an education and community programme involving smaller scale sculptures to give children and the local community the chance to be involved and decorate their own miniature animals. The event aims to provide a fun event for all, celebrating the character and cultural identity of Northamptonshire to unite the creative and business sectors with the local community at the same time raising money for charity. Safari Northampton will allow significant fundraising opportunities; the event will culminate in a Charity Auction, where the large sculptures will be auctioned off to raise money for The Born Free Foundation, The Macmillan Cancer Suite Appeal and The Northamptonshire & Warwickshire Air Ambulance. The Safari Northampton shop will open early in 2012 in The Grosvenor Centre providing information, merchandise and fun events and competitions. The trail itself starts on Saturday 23rd June 2012 – follow the Trail Map to visit the animals and go on an incredible journey in your own county.
