| New York has Central Park... London has Hyde Park... Northampton has Abington Park! We took a stroll around the park on a Sunday afternoon. | Close to the centre of Northampton on the Wellingborough Road, Abington Park has a long history and contains plenty of space for everyone...whether your searching for a swing....... | ......or a quiet stroll around the lake to feed the ducks or other wildfowl that come to visit. |
| ...or your own private bit of green space. The park being the size it is, you can still get away from it all - even on a busy Sunday in Summer!. | There are often organised events in the park. On this occasion Northampton Dog Training Club were holding a dog show. You can find details of organised events in our what's on listings. | The park includes the site of a deserted medieval village dating back to the 1300s as well as other links with the past. This pigeonry has survived for many centuries....... |
| ... and still seems fully occupied today!. | The museum in the park is housed in a 15th Century Manor House which was once the home of Shakespeare's granddaughter. Elizabeth Bernard. The museum features displays depicting the whole of life in Northamptonshire. | The church of St.Peter & St.Paul, where Shakspeare's granddaughter is buried, is usually open to visitors at weekends. Its origins date back to around 1200 and some of the original church is still evident.. |
| When you need reviving help is at hand in the shape of The Old Oak tearoom which serves refreshments and full meals. | The café even sells nuts for you to use to tempt the park squirrels to come a little closer! Considering the number of people who visit the park, they're probably very well fed!. | The area of the park around the museum, tea rooms and tennis courts is laid out more formally with colourful flower beds. |
| There are several avenues of trees such as this in the park - ideal for a morning jog out of the full sun. | Although the park was busy it was still easy to find a quiet corner and an empty bench. | Members of the Abington Angling Club spend many hours at the waterside. |
| The lake is in the centre of this Northampton park and is easy to get around with paths encircling the whole lake. | On summer Sunday afternoons, visitors to the Park are entertained by different local bands. This week it was the turn of Abington Wind Band. | On a warm Summer Sunday, the walking and exploring can wait until another day. It's a time to just 'chill out'! |
