David Jason (Del Boy/Inspector Frost), Vice president of the Air Tattoo launched the 2001 show. In flying uniform he proudly inspected his new three-wheeled vehicle to the delight of the attending press!

David Jason is a great aviation fan and has rarely missed the Air Tattoo. He, like many of the others were pre-occupied with the aircraft arriving for the show.

For many people, the big star of the show is the F-117A Stealth Nighthawk. Although it first flew in 1982 the aircraft's existence did not become public until 1988 - and it still remains of the US Air Force top secret list.

On this occassion the plane was flown by Squadron Leader Lincoln 'Linc' Taylor, an RAF exchange pilot posted to the 'Flying Knights' of 9th Fighter Squadron to fly the US Air Force F-117A Stealth Nighthawk on missions from Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico.

Northampton is well represented at the display by the Northampton 5F ATC band which is one of the oldest bands in the organisation. They will be playing all weekend.

Diana Barnato Walker MBE in her original Air Transport Auxiliary uniform. In WWII she ferried some 46 types of aircraft, including 260 spitfires. She visited Sywell many times.Colonel Linda K McTague of the US National Air Guard with more than 4,900 flying hours. She is based at Andrews Airforce Base and carries out airlift and medical evacuation missions worldwide.Polly Vacher - an inspiration for people approaching 50. She didn't learn to fly until after her 50th birthday yet in May 2001 she completed an epic 29,000 mile round the world flight
