| Northampton will be decked out in red, white and blue from this evening when Jubilee bunting goes up across the town centre. Some 3,000 metres of bunting will be put up across Bridge Street, Gold Street, Drapery, Fish Street, Abington Street, St Giles Street, and Guildhall Road. Councillor Brandon Eldred, Cabinet member for community engagement for Northampton Borough Council said: "There are just three weeks to go until the country celebrates the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the bunting is all part of the preparations. "With nearly 40 street party applications, countless other parties in people's homes and gardens, and the biggest event in the county - the Town & County Big Jubilee Picnic - taking place here in Northampton, we're proud that people are entering into the spirit and celebrating the Queen's 60 year reign in style. "The extended Jubilee weekend will be a chance for communities, friends and families to get together and mark this momentous occasion. I'm sure we'll be seeing a lot more red, white and blue across the Borough as the Jubilee weekend approaches - and hopefully some sunshine to go with it." The Queen's Diamond Jubilee takes place over an extended bank holiday weekend from 2-5 June. The Town & County Big Jubilee Picnic takes place on Sunday 3 June from 12noon to 6pm.
