20/08/2010 WORK CONTINUES TO IMPROVE NORTHAMPTONSHIRE ROADS
	Northamptonshire County Council is continuing with its new programme of highways maintenance – which aims at improving the road network, making it more resilient to extreme weather conditions and to normal wear and tear deterioration. The authority, along with its service provider MGWSP, has been carrying out more permanent repairs than before, investing in preventative maintenance to slow further deterioration and concentrating on localised road patching. The improved integrity of the highway will make it more resistant to wear and tear and the effects of severe winter conditions. In the long-term this will prove to be far more effective and offer better value for money for the taxpayer as on average five times more improvement can be realised by preventative treatment as opposed to reactive maintenance of defects. The overriding commitment from the council and its service provider is to continue to attend and repair all emergency defects in the county and ensure that the roads and pavements are safe at all times. Work taking place in the county between August 23 and September 5 Footway works (weather dependent): Slurry sealing is a thin layer of a bitumen material (tar) with stone added, which dries within a few hours after completion to provide a new top surface on pavements. This prolongs its life and improves water resistance. * Kettering - Ise Lodge * Irthlingborough - Allen Road area * Brackley - Bridgewater area * Stanion - village * Rushden - Farnham Drive, Blackfriars areas * Whitfield Carriageway patching: This is where small areas of the carriageway are patched with semi-permanent repairs to address localised damage to the highway. * Weldon - Church Street * Thenford - Purston Road * Culworth - Sulgrave Road * Culworth - Queen Street * Northampton - Billing Road * Northampton - Cliftonville Road * Northampton - The Avenue * Corby - Cecil Drive/ Burghley Avenue * Oundle - A427 Benefield Road * Warmington - A605 Peterborough Road * Rushton - Station Road * Kettering - Doris Road * Desborough - Dunkirk Avenue * Moulton - Chater Street / Church Street / The Grove * Holcot - Sywell Road / Moulton Road Area-based – invest to save (weather dependent): Area-based projects target large areas of residential roads to carry out preventative maintenance that will slow further deterioration.
