3RD EAST ANGLIAN REGIMENT REUNION AT DUXFORD

The 3rd East Anglian Regiment holds its second annual reunion on Sunday 31 May at 10.00am at the Royal Anglian Regiment Museum, housed in the Land Warfare Hall at Imperial War Museum Duxford.

Following the success of last year’s reunion, where the 3rd East Anglian Regiment celebrated its 50th anniversary, it is hoped that this year’s event will encourage more old comrades to join the Regiment’s veterans’ group.

The reunion gives ex-servicemen an opportunity to remember fallen comrades in a ceremony of remembrance and to reminisce about their experiences. Many of the attending ex-servicemen will not have met since their days in the Regiment, so it is also an opportunity to catch up with old colleagues and renew friendships.
Bill Green, Public Relations Officer, Malaya Veterans Group, 3rd East AnglianRegiment said:
“In eighteen short months our group has grown from a handful of old comrades getting together over a pint in the pub to a group with members scattered all over East Anglia and even farther afield. From Alora in Spain to Northern Ireland and from the West Country in England, Malaya veterans of the 3rd East Anglian Regiment will gather to talk of times when they were young men. There are still many old comrades out there to be contacted and with the help of the media, we hope to increase our number much further.”

Although the 3rd East Anglian Regiment Reunion is a private event, members of the veteran group will be available to chat to visitors later in the day, in conjunction with Imperial War Museum Duxford’s ‘People’s Stories of War’, a day of activities that enables visitors to gain an understanding of how war and conflict affected people’s lives through the momentous period from the First World War through to post-Second World War and National Service.

The story of the 3rd East Anglian Regiment is a particularly poignant and interesting one, as they were called up as National Servicemen, given some military training and then found themselves in the jungles of Malaya, fighting the Communist rebels. The 3rd East Anglian Regiment was the direct predecessor to the Royal Anglian Regiment, which was deployed to Iraq in 2005, 2006 and 2008 and to Afghanistan in
2007.
