26/05/2009 BRITISH OLYMPIC TRIO HEAD INTERNATIONAL ENTRY AT BRIGSTOCK | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| British Eventing Team Bronze medallists Sharon Hunt, Daisy Dick and Kristina Cook, who also won Individual Bronze, are the pick of the over 850-strong entry for this year’s Brigstock International Horse Trials. Running Friday 29th May to Sunday 31st May, the three days of competition will certainly live up to its International billing with riders from an amazing 16 countries, including Russia, South Africa, India, Norway and Poland, heading to Fermyn Woods Hall in Northamptonshire for a range of classes. Sharon and Kristina will be riding in the Advanced Intermediate on their Olympic horses Tankers Town and Miners Frolic respectively in a bid to earn a spot on the British Team for the European Championships later this year in September while Daisy features in the Open Intermediate section with her 2006 Blenheim winner Springbok VI. For the spectators, the Organisers have laid on some new features including Icarus Falconry with a wide variety of birds of prey on display, a Classic Car display (one for dad!) and visitors will be able to explore the acres of Gardens surrounding Fermyn Woods Hall – a real privilege for those with a green thumb. The feature CIC** was a new addition last year and will again provide some top class competition. Vicky Laing will have “home advantage” with her own Joli Figaro as Fermyn Woods Hall is her family home and father David is the event’s joint organiser. One of the sport’s biggest equine names, Ballincoola, 2nd at last year’s Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials with former rider William Fox-Pitt, will be piloted by his new jockey, Fergus Payne in their biggest test together to date while another seasoned campaigner giving a young rider vital experience is Master Monarch, winner of the Lexington four star in 2006, ridden by Georgie Strang. This competition is also a vital stepping stone for younger horses on their way up the eventing ladder with a view to future top competition and perhaps even London 2012 Olympics. In all, there will be 20 sections over the three days with competitions at BE100, Novice, Intermediate, Open Intermediate, Advanced Intermediate level and of course, the CIC where riders compete for a first prize of £500. There are special sections of KBIS Junior Regional Novice for young riders aged 16 – 18 plus a qualifier for the Lycetts British Eventing Five Year Old Championship for up-and-coming horses. Plus there will be Team Pony Club Show Jumping with teams coming from far and wide. The Cross Country Course is designed by Phillip Herbert, Clerk of the Course at the World famous Burghley International Horse Trials – one of the best minds and craftsmen in the sport. The four courses make excellent use of features in the park – including the spectator’s favourite, the water fences which are just a short walk away from the main arena so spectators needn’t stray too far to see the action up close. There is action in all three phases – Dressage, Show Jumping and Cross Country – on all three days with each day getting underway about 9:00am and the Cross Country starting around 10:00. The CIC section will do dressage on Friday in the main arena and Cross Country on Saturday morning – they then have a rest before Show Jumping in the afternoon in reverse order of merit. The Olympic riders will be in action on Sunday – catch them on the cross country after 10am. For spectators there will be a range of trade stands to tempt you as well as refreshments each day – or why not bring your own picnic and make a day of it. Entry is £10 per car including as many occupants as you can squish in and a complimentary programme. Full entries and timetable are available from www.bdwp.co.uk/brg or log on to www.fermynwoodshall.co.uk/brigstock-horse-trials.php for more information on the event and Fermyn Woods Hall. LOCATION: Fermyn Woods Hall is on the Brigstock to Benenfied road and will be signed. It is 7 miles from Junction 12 off the A14 and approximately 8 miles from Kettering, Corby and Oundle. |
