|---|---|---|
| A convicted car-clocker who failed to pay £58,000 following a court judgment has been jailed thanks to action taken by Northamptonshire County Council’s trading standards service. In April 2006, following a joint operation involving officers from trading standards and Northamptonshire Police, Kelvin White of Braybrooke Road, Desborough and The Green, Kibworth Beauchamp, Leicestershire, trading as Manor Cars, pleaded guilty to seven offences of applying a false trade description to motor vehicles and four offences of falsifying vehicle service history records and MOT test certificates. He received to a community punishment and rehabilitation order (three years community rehabilitation and 100 hours community punishment). At a confiscation hearing in December 2006, a benefit figure of £1,986,968.50 was declared and White was ordered to pay £58,000 under the Proceeds of Crime Act (2002). This amount was to be paid within six months, with a default sentence set at 21 months. After six months, a request for an extension was granted; however he failed to pay by the new date of 17th December 2007. At Hinckley Magistrates Court on Thursday (17th April) Kelvin White received a 21-month custodial sentence for failing to pay the £58,000. | ||
