PLANS FOR THE TRANSFORMATION OF KETTERING SCHOOLS

Plans for the transformation of secondary schools in Kettering to help the town address predicted population growth have been discussed at a series of meetings between Northamptonshire County Council and school heads and governors.

Meetings are due to take place later this month where school heads and chairs of governors will consider a number of options for the town – including the potential benefits of transforming schools into Academies in the town or other options for school growth including a potential new build.
Academies are a flagship government initiative for raising standards in schools – currently there is one Academy in Northampton while two are due to open in Corby this September.

It is not yet confirmed which schools and which sponsors would be involved should an Academy option be pursued and were such proposals to be put forward, changes there would be the subject of full consultation.

Cabinet member for children and young people Joan Kirkbride said: “It is vital that as a county we rise to the challenges presented to us by being one of the fastest growing areas in the country. It is imperative therefore that we look at any initiative which can improve the quality of education for young people in Northamptonshire. The meetings we have held have had a particular focus on improvements that can be brought about for all young people in Kettering and exploring all the options available to us to achieve this.
