EASIER ROUTE AROUND ROADWORKS IN NORTHAMPTONSHIRE

Northamptonshire County Council has revamped its website to make it easier for people to find out about planned highway works.

The councils’ interactive maps section was originally launched last year to allow visitors to the website to search for information about highways work planned highways work in their immediate locality.

Information available includes the type of work scheduled, the anticipated start date, progress of the work and contact details for the job.

However, recent changes have taken place to make the information more user-friendly and to help local groups such as parish councils to get information in a more relevant way.
Cabinet member for transport, Bob Seery, said: “In addition to the essential need to prepare a comprehensive programme of highways work and improvements in the county, it is important that the public is able to easily access that information in an understandable format.

”It is hoped that the people of Northamptonshire will find the new arrangements helpful and that it will assist them in being kept properly informed.”

The mapping system records schemes proposed by the county council in partnership with Atkins – it does not display information on everyday works like grass cutting, or street works by utilities or developers.

The site covers ten different work categories for which the county council is responsible, including footways, roads, cycleways, street lighting and safer routes to schools.
