04/08/2005 NEW GRANTS FOR NORTHAMPTONSHIRE CHARITIES HELPING FAMILIES | |||

| A new grant scheme has been launched by Northamptonshire County Council as part of its drive to refocus the services it provides for children and young people. Last month the council announced it would be opening new family resource centres as part of a major initiative to focus services primarily on safeguarding children and preventing the need to take them into care, while still maintaining its commitment to responding should crises arise. Now as part of the same process the council has created a new grant scheme offering grants of up to £10,000 to organisations in the voluntary sector who offer support services to families.
"We are committed to providing a thorough network of services for families in need of support. I am delighted this grant scheme will allow us to join forces with the voluntary sector to ensure this commitment is realised." Voluntary organisations will have to show they provide evidence-based practical support packages for families in times of crises, particularly those with children who may already have a social worker and are at risk of being placed on the child protection register.
