26/05/2005 YOUNG ARTISTS PICK UP PRIZES AT UNIVERSITY COLLEGE NORTHAMPTON
	University College Northampton this week hosted the final judging of the Young Arts Project, organised by Christine Midgley, Project Organiser at University College Northampton, and NADFAS, a local group which supports the Arts. Five students were awarded prizes of £100 each in the areas of drawing, sculpture, photography and painting, with the overall winner being announced as Julie Arbuckle. The competition was open to students studying Fine Art or Design, aged 25 or under, with all art work having a theme of wildlife, the environment, ecology or conservation. The competition was supported by The Whitley Laing Foundation, a UK charity offering a variety of awards to outstanding nature conservation leaders around the world, with sponsorship from Northamptonshire Decorative and Fine Arts Society, Marriot Hardcastle Northampton and O’Connor and Co (Insurances) Northampton. Christine Midgley commented: “This competition has encouraged students to explore ideas about the environment through a variety of media. Presenting work in an exhibition is a valuable experience for the students – work seen in a public place where there is a chance of feedback or response from the audience gives the student confidence.” The judging panel included John Chapman, Chairman, Northampton NADFAS, Hamish Mackie, Artist, Louisa Mitchell, Director of The Whitley Laing Foundation and Dave Keskeys, School of The Arts, University College Northampton.
