03/04/2005 NORTHAMPTON DIOCESE SHARES ITS SADNESS AT THE POPE'S DEATH | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| The Diocese of Northampton shares the sense of sadness of the whole Church. Pope John Paul has been a remarkable shepherd for us all, travelling across the world to be close to the people and clergy of the Church. His visit to Great Britain in 1982 is still fondly remembered by many. During his twenty-six year pontificate, Pope John Paul II has appointed three bishops of Northampton: the Rt. Rev. Francis Thomas (1982-1988); the Rt. Rev. P Leo McCartie (1990-2001); the Rt. Rev. Kevin McDonald (2001-2003). Prayers will be offered for the repose of the soul of the Pope in every parish throughout the Diocese. It will be celebrated by the Diocesan Administrator, Monsignor Canon Séan Healy, and it will be an opportunity for Catholics across the area to gather and pray to God to give eternal rest to Pope John Paul and to thank God for the remarkable witness of his life. Everyone is warmly welcome to attend, whether or not they are Catholic. On the day of the Pope’s funeral, another Mass will be offered in the Cathedral. The date and time of this will be announced shortly.
