 Santa Pod's resident Jet Car driver, Martin Hill, put in a stunning pass in the "Fireforce 3 Jet Funny Car", on the throttle all the way down the track and clocking a 5.793 second run at 336.10mph which is the fastest quarter mile terminal speed by a Jet-powered drag racer ON THE PLANET! The previous fastest was 330.90 by US Jet Dragster pilot Bill Mattio. Martin had already recorded 288 mph on a three quarter pass the previous day but this time he was on the throttle all the way and as the record breaking speed flashed up onto the timing display boards, a crowd of over 15,000 jubilant fans erupted with deafening cheers and rapturous applause! Martin Hill, the owner and one of only two drivers, has been working on Jet engines for over 20 years. "We've done lots of testing recently and everything we've been working on seems to have finally come together! The cool atmospheric conditions of the Eastweekend here at Santa Pod have helped to get maxim power and enable the jets to operate at maximum efficiency - it's unlikely we would have achieved it in any warmer conditions. I've also been working out recently – perhaps that's helped with lighten the load too!" The Chevrolet Lumina bodied machine has a Pratt and Whitney JFTD12A (J60) engine from a CH-544 Skycrane helicopter in its chassis. This develops over 5000lbs of thrust and guzzles 120 litres of aviation fuel per appearance on track! The Fireforce Jet Car will be back to wow the crowds at many future Santa Pod events but the next major event will be the FIA "Main Event", tipped to be the most fiercely contested round of the FIA European Championship. The "Main Event" is four full days of burning rubber, raucous exhausts and fiery engines guaranteed to get the adrenalin pumping. The televised event is a major crowd puller, and crowd pleaser, attracting 20,000 visitors. During the Spring Bank Holiday weekend, over 250 different crazy cars and bikes blast down the purpose built quarter-mile track in a scrap to find the fastest men and women on the planet.
