09/06/2004 £1,000 REWARD FOR INFORMATION ON ARSONISTS IN NORTHAMPTON | |||
|---|---|---|---|
| A £1,000 reward is being offered for any information leading to the arrest and charge of the offender or offenders responsible for an arson at a Northampton home. Shortly before 2am on Thursday June 3, a fire broke out at a house in Drydale Avenue in Spinney Hill, Northampton. Dawn Bates and her three children Karl, 15, Precious, 6, and Grace, 3, were in the house at the time of the blaze which caused considerable fire damage and smoke damage to the front door and interior of the property. The children managed to escape through an upstairs window and then helped their mother through a window to safety. Thankfully there were no serious injuries, however the fire could obviously have led to fatal injuries. The house was examined by scenes of crime officers and police inquiries into the incident are ongoing. Mrs Bates and her family are now putting up a £1,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and charge of the person or people who started the fire and put their lives at risk.
"We are putting up this reward because it is important that whoever started this fire is caught. If it hadn’t been for the quick thinking of Karl I dread to think what would have happened. "I would urge anyone who knows anything about the fire to contact the Police." Investigating officer PC Ian McDonald said: "This incident could have had very grave consequences and if it wasn’t for the quick-thinking and actions of Karl, we could have been dealing with a murder inquiry here. "The house was badly damaged by fire and smoke. We are appealing for anyone who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the Drydale Avenue area in the early hours of last Thursday June 3, or anyone who has any information about this incident, no matter how small or insignificant it may seem, to contact us." The arson is believed to be connected to a number of vehicles which were set fire to in Greenfield Avenue some time after midnight on June 3. Anyone with any information about the house fire or the vehicle fires are asked to contact Northampton Police on 01604 700700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111. |
