SUMMER PROGRAMME UNVEILED AT THE CASTLE

The Castle, Wellingborough is looking forward to the Summer months as the new season May-August brochure is launched. General booking begins on Friday 19 March (and Friends of The Castle Priority Booking opens Monday 15 March).

The usual exciting mix of theatre, film, comedy, music and much more is on offer as things heat up over the Summer months.

One of the undoubted highlights of the season is Hull Truck Theatre Company coming to The Castle for a week of top quality drama on Monday 17 to Saturday 22 May with two new plays written and directed by John Godber: Screaming Blue Murder and Black Tie & Tales. From the multi-award winning writer of ‘Teechers’ and ‘Bouncers’ comes two more fantastic plays in one week – not to be missed.

One of the nation’s favourite and long running television series of all time – Heartbeat – is brought to the stage. Whether you are a fan of the show or a lover of the swinging sixties don’t miss the chance to see this musical celebration of the most popular of these 60’s chartbusters on Tuesday 1 June at 7.30pm.

Drama continues when Patrick Marber’s Evening Standard Award Winning play; Closer comes to The Castle on Thursday 3 June, 7.30pm. A compelling story of love, sex and betrayal that will change the lives of four strangers forever.

Oddsocks Productions return for another sell-out show with The Legend of Robin Hood and King John on Wednesday 23 June, 7.30pm. Make sure you book early or miss out.

The ever popular comedy continues with the regular Fools Paradise Comedy Club and a host of comedians on offer to kick-start your weekends. The laughter begins in the main house with Big Fools Paradise on Friday 14 May (doors open 8pm) and then moves to the studio on Friday 4 June and Friday 2 July.

The comedian and novelist, Sean Hughes, makes a stop off at The Castle on Friday 16 July at 7.30pm to round off the season of comedy in style. Sympathetic Development will be an evening of poems, short stories and extracts from Sean’s novels.

And if you are looking for a Summer holiday treat for all the family make sure you catch Sooty in The Izzy Wizzy Holiday Show on Friday 23 July at 2pm and 4.30pm. Come and join in the fun and games with Sooty and the gang in this packed frenzy of fun!

The sounds of the regular jazz evenings continue to serenade and include Sonny Monk’s Society Jazz Band (Thu 13 May), Eriko Ishihara Trio (Thu 20 May), Richard Leach and His Clubhouse Jazz Band (Thu 3 June), Dick Pearce with The Pete Cox Trio (Thu 17 June), Paul Towndrow Quartet (Thu 8 July) and Tad Newton’s Jazz Friends with Greg Abate (Thu 15 July).

Make sure you don’t miss the Deep Roots Latin Lovers Salsa Season. Three stunning salsa concerts to turn up the Summer heat and get you on your dancing feet; Conjunto Sabroso Con Swing! Begins the season on Friday 21 May, 8.30pm, Viramundo Afro-Bahia on Friday 18 June, 8.30pm and Salsa AfroCubana! On Friday 16 July. Get your dancing shoes on and head to The Castle.

And if all that wasn’t enough to keep you entertained don’t forget to check out The Castle’s big screen films, which include The Last Samurai (15) on Tues 11 May, Cold Mountain (15) on Tue 25 May, Big Fish (12A) on Sat 12 June and Harry Potter And The Prisoner of Azkaban on at various times from Friday 16 – Friday 23 July; with a magical ticket offer on all matinee showings.
