15/03/2004 GOT A SPARE JCB ? - APPEAL FOR HELP AT BRIXWORTH'S SENSORY GARDEN | |||
|---|---|---|---|
Diggers, topsoil and timber are needed for a major redevelopment of the sensory garden at Northamptonshire County Council’s Brixworth Country Park. The garden was created 5 years ago, as part of an ongoing commitment by the county council to ensure ‘countryside access for all’. It was designed so people with disabilities, particularly the blind and visually impaired, could benefit from a wildlife area that provided stimulation for all the senses. Currently its features include herb lawns and ponds, but it’s now in need of a revamp. Rangers at Brixworth are appealing to local businesses and others who would like to sponsor the new look by offering key materials or equipment such as mini-diggers to help with the work. County council cabinet member for country parks, Peter Dixon, says: “This is a project the whole community will be able to enjoy. The sensory garden is already used for a variety of experiences, including pond dipping, but we want to make sure even more people can benefit from it in the future. We’ve already got off to a good start, with the donation of a landscape plan. I hope more local businesses will be able to help.” To find out more, please contact Nicola Franklin or Richard Clough at Brixworth County Park on 01604 883920. |
